Everything from daily commute to weekend trips

Since getting my Vietnam 6 Premji Pack from your Kickstarter campaign two years ago, this has been my go-to bag for everything from my daily work commute on my bike, to carry-on-only weekend trips down to see my parents. The side access zip is a lifesaver - the number of times I used to rummage around in the main compartment of bags, this absolutely changes the game. Also, the top zip compartment is surprisingly roomy, and seems to fit any number of small handy things I throw inside it (sunnies, keys, wallet, phone, lip balm, hair ties etc.). The combination of the stretch mesh for water bottles, and slim side pocket for phones (easy access to my phone, but slim enough that it doesn't fall out when I'm cycling), is perfect. I've also found the side buckle clips and the bit of belt that goes across the front really handy for tying extra things onto - I've hung gear off it with carabiners, and tied bed rolls to it with rope. Haven't had a single tear or fault yet!

Great Investment

I was sick of having to carry a backpack for my uni/everyday items, my laptop bag and a lunch bag to and fro uni/work. Every.Single.Day. I felt like a human camel commuting on the train! I needed to buy a bag that would comfortably fit everything I use daily, something that was sturdy and ethically made. I stumbled across Ethnotek and decided to have a look. I did not regret my choice. This bag fits everything I need for the daily grind; my 14" laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad), my notebook and folder, stationary, a lunchbox, my little make up bag, work/gym clothes and other little bits and bobs. It's very comfortable to wear on the back, even when it is heavily loaded, since the shape distributes the weight evenly, so your shoulders and back don't ache. The only suggestions I would make on further improvement is make the inner wall separating the laptop compartment a bit more padded, so the laptop is protected from the contents inside the bag (though that's just a personal preference since I'm über-protective with my electronics). Also sometimes one of the top clasps interferes with unzipping the front pocket; you have to open the clasp if you want to fully open the pocket, but it's more of a minor inconvenience tbh. Overall I would recommend this bag to anyone who's tired of carrying 12384974 separate bags for everything like I was, and just wanted one bag that fits all your daily essentials- no fuss, no BS. It was an investment for me, but it was definitely worth it.

Beautifully made and designed!

It's obvious that a lot of thought went into creating this pack. I love the roomy main compartment, and the slim front pocket is perfect for trail maps, journals, magazines, etc. I brought this pack on a big road trip through the Blue Ridge Mountains, and instead of using my regular camera bag, I brought this. It was perfect. The lenses (in their own padded bag) and camera fit in the main compartment. Filters, chargers, and extra batteries went in the small top pocket, and my tripod strapped to the side. It was way more comfortable than my camera bag, and definitely more stylish! My only real complaint is that I would love it if the side zipper to the main compartment started at the bottom and zipped up. A couple of times the zipper has opened a bit when I'm hiking, and I worry that I will lose something. I remedied this minor issue by keeping my rain jacket in the bottom of the pack. It's a small flaw - and I'm still giving this pack 5 stars. I hope it lasts for many years!

Incredible products, fabulous customer service!

The Premji has been the perfect pack for short trips and all of my every day needs. I used it as a school bag, for work, and for short travels. I LOVE the side zipper for quick access, the pockets are all perfect for anything I need for traveling light. I am continually impressed by the quality of Ethnotek products and the company commitment to ethically sourcing their textiles, collaborating with great causes, and providing some of the best customer service I've ever received. I'd love to say that you'll only ever need one bag from them because they will last you a life time - but ... you'll "NEED" more than one because you won't be able to live without them all (even thought they'll last you a life time). I also own the Jalan Sling which I tend to use as a much better version of a purse, and have gotten several smaller bags like the large Padu Pouch as gifts that everyone goes over the moon for! I just ordered a new Raja for bigger longer adventures, and KNOW I'm getting something amazing. Thank you for such a brilliant and thoughtfully sourced product with such beautiful handmade designs.

Love it

Got mine from kickstarter and I can only say good things about it. It is very well thought, there is a place for everything. The side zipper is brilliant. I used it for my summer holidays, just the right size for traveling light. Now every trip is with this backpack. When I have to carry anything it is with this bag. Always comfortable. It is beautiful, I have Vietnam 5, just lovely.

I use it for everything

What a great bag! I had an OG Ethnotek bag for about 6 years before I needed a new one. . .I used it everyday for books. I got this bag through the Kickstarter and it is GREAT! I love all the compartments and space. It is high quality, colorful, and versatile. I highly recommend this bag and this company

No regrets

I've been wanting to have a bag from Ethnotek and i admire their philosophy on making their bags. A dream come true. Been rocking their premji pack and i absolutely love it. It's a well built backpack that you can carry anywhere. And did i say it's affordable? Yes it is affordable and much more sturdy compared to others overpriced backpacks in the market. But it's not only the bag, it's how they value people. If you purchase a bag from ethnotek your not only helping the environment, your also helping the families and people who makes these beautiful bags. Be an advocate. "Carry Ethnotek" I highly recomend this backpack. Support Ethnotek. You won't regret it.

Great backpack (minor design flaw)

I love this backpack - it's a great size, the pockets are well placed and super useful. The side zipper is amazing! I use it every day as a diaper bag. The only thing I don't love is the loop at the top of the pack is attached to the zippered top, which means you can't hang your backpack on a hook and also have it open. This is obviously an issue if you want to have your bag hanging on a hook while also accessing the contents. If that's not something you need to do regularly, this bag is great.

Nice but expensive for what it is

I have this bag since it release (kickstarter). I use it everyday and i'l have to change it relatively soon as holes start to appear. For this price i was expecting something for solid . The bag is nice, the fit is ok, nothing special here. If your use it for small trek it's probably not the best bag; but it's ok for an everyday bag. What is dislike the most is the lateral zip. Who has this ****** idea to put it in that direction ? never saw that. If someone open your bag everything will fall. There is not reason for that. I'm always stressed about this zip so i check it all the time to be sure that the bag is properly closed. And be careful when you travel in crowed city.

Design flaws

I loved this pack at first, but it has some major design flaws that ultimately made me replace this pack with another. First, the lateral zipper zips to the bottom, not to the top. When you have anything in the bag, this zipper will open while you walk, spilling the contents. I would have to constantly check this zipper while wearing it and it would always be open. Weight settles to the bottom of the pack and puts pressure on the zipper, thus causing it to open...not sure why it was designed this way. Second, the loop where you hang your pack is sewed to the "lid" that opens, not to the body of the pack. If you need to hang your bag and open it up, you can't. I guess you could, but your pack would be backwards, and it would stretch out and put pressure on the weak parts and eventually tear. I will say that this design makes it easy to wear your pack in front (on your chest) and open it up, which I frequently do...so there's that option. Also, this pack doesn't really fit a 15in. laptop. It kind of fits, but it's super tight and you can't really close the zipper. I guess this varies laptop to laptop - mine's a Dell. Get a Raja instead - a much more intuitively designed pack without the flaws listed here.
